Baxter Junior High School

My name is Derica Watson, and I’m thrilled to return to Charles Baxter Jr. High as your 8th grade Assistant Principal, where I’ve proudly served as a dedicated educator for the past 8 years.  As a proud alumni of Everman ISD,  I have deep roots in the community and am excited to give back by supporting the next generation of students.

Throughout my 18 year career in secondary education, I have developed a passion for promoting student growth in both academic and extracurricular settings. I am dedicated to creating a positive and inclusive school environment that emphasizes empathy, accountability, and community building. 

My career in secondary education has spanned a variety of roles—from classroom teaching and sports medicine to college and career readiness and athletic administration. I’ve had the privilege of serving on several educational teams and committees, all with the goal of supporting student success and growth. My hands-on experience in student support and academic guidance, combined with a passion for mentoring youth, is why I strive to create an environment where students feel valued and empowered to succeed.

Outside of school, I’ve been happily married for 15 years and am a proud mom of two boys, ages 4 and 12. In my free time, I enjoy reading, trying new foods, and traveling with my family.
